Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

Sony Ericsson`s first two smartphones from the Xperia series, although packing some powerful hardware, were not what we`ve hoped they will be, and I dare say it`s due to one reason only: they were based on Windows Mobile OS.
Third time`s the charm, they say, and it just might be the case with the latest device from the series, Xperia X10. Today, Sony Ericsson released official specifications and photos of the final product; judging from those, it might be the Android (Android) device that`ll give iPhone and Nokia a run for their money.
First, there are the specifications. A huge, 4-inch capacitive touch display, 480×854 pixels wide. A 8.1 megapixel camera with LED flash. A 1GHz Snapdragon CPU. An 8 GB microSD memory card included, with the possibility of extending that with larger memory cards. And yes, the rest of it WiFi, Bluetooth (Bluetooth), Micro USB, A-GPS, HSPA it`s all there. Pile up all that together, and you get a phone that beats the competition in almost every aspect

Then theres the software. While were eagerly waiting for Windows Mobile 7.0, we have to say were glad that Sony Ericsson decided to develop its flagship smartphone around Android, because Windows Mobile 6.5 just didnt deliver enough changes to make it a real competitor to iPhone OS and Android. And while the version of Android X10 comes with is an old one 1.6 its UI has been thoroughly reworked by Sony Ericsson. The question here, as the folks at Engadget point out, is whether all this will be smooth or laggy; it looks fast on promo videos, so the jury is still out on that one.
